Interesting Fact:
Did you know a Fair was an annual autumn event where people brought their produce and livestock to buy, sell, and swap?  It was not a show or exhibition.  In 1807, Elkanah Watson of Pittsfield Massachusetts brought two of his imported Spanish merino sheep to the Fair as an educational exhibit to show area farmers how they could improve their flocks.  In response to that first breed demonstration, in 1810 Watson sponsored a community cattle show.  In 1811, he founded the Berkshire Agricultural Society to ensure the exhibition of livestock for the purpose of education would be an annual event.  By 1816, farming societies included livestock exhibitions at their local Fairs.

Exhibition is for the purpose of educating breeders about selecting breeding stock for desirable traits.
